Finding inexpensive ways of marketing yet get good results is what everyone looks out for. Especially in case of small business, you don’t have the luxury of allocating too much for marketing expenses. So finding inexpensive marketing ways is a necessity.
Have you ever tried the marketing strategy of Public Relations? You just have to follow a few basic rules to get things right. You can get great exposure for your business, product or service without having to pay for it!
Here’s what you should do. Who is your target market? After you know whom exactly you are catering to, identify news dailies, publications, journals and magazines that are targeted for this particular segment. Example: small business owners. Research names of writers who take care of marketing in those publications. Send a press release about your product/service or business that you have launched. The key here is to make it sound interesting to readers. It is something that should enlighten readers and be of use to them. If your article is such, then it will be of great interest to the publications as well. Send them an email and follow up on phone. Be available for questions from the readers in days to come.
Interested publications will revert back to you for further clarifications. Meanwhile, you should also follow up. You could even send your product for review. Finally, after they are convinced, they will publish the press release. The circulation is huge. The information reaches so many. Here are some basic rules you should follow:
- Identify news outlets that reach your target audience
- Send important news that will very clearly benefit the publication audience
- Send your report to the appropriate editor or writer. Else, consider it lost!
- Include a hook or something that will make it more relevant to the audience
- Follow up with a phone call
- Prepare for an interview with the writer/editor/news outlet authority. Provide more information if need be and clarify their questions.
All this will increase your visibility. Your target audience knows you exist and will keep you in mind. The reach is wide so the awareness spread is higher. Consider newspapers, magazines, radio and TV stations, websites, and any other form of media. They are powerful sources whose reach is extremely large. The impact of such an exercise stays long and lingers in the minds of people until they actually make the effort to know about your product/service/business.
Apart from marketing on the internet with a million marketing options to chose one, try your hands in PR. It is inexpensive, too. You just need good writing and convincing skills. PR also gives you a platform to establish yourself as an Expert in your area by contributing meaningful articles that your news publication also thinks is worthwhile. Certainly, the results of PR are amazing. It is far easier than you think and people learn about you instantly.
